CUSTOM DESIGN PROCESS

One Photograph, Carefully Designed Across Three Panels

You only need to provide one photograph. Our designer will prepare the image as a continuous three-panel composition, with the taller section placed in the centre and two matching shorter sections positioned on either side.

The crop, panel divisions and overall balance are reviewed carefully so that important faces, text and small details are kept away from the gaps wherever possible.

1. Send Your Original Photo A wide, high-resolution photograph generally provides the greatest flexibility for the staggered layout.
2. Designer Panel Layout We position the photograph across the two shorter side panels and the taller centre panel.
3. Review Before Printing A digital layout preview can be supplied so that the division and crop can be checked before production.

A Contemporary Alternative to a Standard Triptych

A traditional triptych normally uses three panels of equal height. This staggered version uses three panels of equal width, with a taller centre canvas and two shorter matching side canvases vertically centred alongside it.

Equal Panel Widths

All three panels have the same width, creating a consistent visual rhythm across the complete wall display.

Taller Centre Panel

The centre canvas extends above and below the side panels, naturally drawing attention towards the middle of the photograph.

Symmetrical Arrangement

The two shorter side panels are identical in size and aligned with the vertical centre of the middle panel.

FOUR PROPORTIONED SIZES

Staggered Triptych Canvas Size Guide

Each option includes two matching side panels and one taller centre panel. All measurements are shown as width × height and refer to each individual canvas.

The approximate overall display width includes a recommended 3 cm space between each canvas. You may reduce or increase the spacing slightly to suit your wall.

Recommended spacing Leave approximately 2–5 cm between the panels. Around 3 cm generally creates the most balanced appearance.

Which Triptych Size Should You Choose?

Consider the width of your furniture, the available wall space and the normal viewing distance when choosing your canvas size.

Display area: approximately 96 × 60 cm

Suitable for smaller bedrooms, hallways, home offices, reading areas and compact wall spaces.

POPULAR SIZE

Medium

Display area: approximately 126 × 80 cm

A versatile choice for three-seat sofas, dining areas, Queen beds and medium-sized feature walls.

Large

Display area: approximately 156 × 100 cm

Ideal above large sofas, King beds, reception areas and prominent living-room walls.

X Large

Display area: approximately 186 × 120 cm

Designed for large open-plan homes, expansive feature walls, offices and commercial interiors.

What Types of Photos Work Best?

Wide photographs generally provide the best results because the image needs to extend naturally across all three portrait canvas panels.

Landscape Photography

Beaches, oceans, mountain ranges, forests, countryside scenes and panoramic travel photographs work particularly well.

Wedding and Family Photos

Choose an image with enough space around the people so that faces and important details can remain away from panel divisions.

Architecture and Artwork

City skylines, bridges, architectural scenes, abstract designs and decorative artwork can create a dramatic feature wall.

Important composition note Faces, important text and small details should not sit directly on a panel division. Our designer will adjust the crop and positioning wherever possible to protect important areas of the image.

How to Order Your Custom Staggered Triptych

This product requires customised panel positioning and is prepared by our designer rather than through the standard single-image online editor.

1

Select Your Size

Choose the required panel configuration, canvas edge style and any other available options before placing your order.

2

Send Us Your Photo

Email your photograph to support@customcanvasonline.com.au and include your order number. Large files may also be shared through Dropbox, WeTransfer or Google Drive.

3

Review the Layout

Our designer positions the image across the three panels and prepares a preview when required. Production begins after the layout has been confirmed.

Professionally Printed and Finished

Each panel is produced as an individual canvas while maintaining consistent colour, detail and visual continuity across the complete three-piece artwork.

Premium Printed Canvas

Your image is printed on quality semi-gloss polyester and cotton canvas with detailed colour reproduction and a professional decorative finish.

Timber Stretcher Frames

Each canvas is carefully stretched over an individual timber stretcher frame to create a firm and clean gallery-style presentation.

Ready for Indoor Display

The canvas surface is water-resistant and UV-resistant for long-lasting indoor display. Outdoor colour durability is not guaranteed.

Choose Your Canvas Edge Style

The treatment applied to the sides of each canvas can change the overall appearance of the finished three-panel display.

Gallery Wrap

The photograph continues around the sides of each frame, creating an immersive appearance while using part of the image around the outer edges.

Mirror Wrap

The outer areas of the photograph are mirrored onto the sides, helping to preserve more of the original image on the front of each canvas.

Colour Wrap

A solid colour is applied to the canvas edges. Black and white are popular choices for creating a clean and defined finish.

How to Hang Your Staggered Triptych Canvas

Install the taller centre panel first, then position the two shorter side panels at the same vertical height and with equal spacing on both sides.

1

Mark the Centre

Find the horizontal centre of the available wall area and mark the preferred height.

2

Hang the Centre Panel

Install the taller centre canvas first and check that it is straight before continuing.

3

Position the Side Panels

Vertically centre both shorter panels against the middle canvas and use equal spacing.

4

Check the Balance

Step back and check the complete arrangement before finalising all fixing positions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about image preparation, panel sizing, previews, installation and ordering.

A staggered triptych is one photograph divided across three individual canvas panels. The centre canvas is taller, while the two matching side canvases are shorter and vertically centred to create a balanced stepped layout.
No. The listed measurements refer to each individual canvas panel. For example, the Medium option includes two 40 × 60 cm side panels and one 40 × 80 cm centre panel. The overall displayed width also depends on the spacing left between the three canvases.
After placing your order, email your photograph to support@customcanvasonline.com.au and include your order number. Large image files may also be shared through Dropbox, WeTransfer or Google Drive.
A digital layout preview can be provided when required. It shows how the photograph will be divided and positioned across the three panels so that the crop and important image details can be checked before production.
The image must be divided at two panel boundaries. Our designer carefully positions the photograph so that important faces, text and details are kept away from these divisions wherever possible.
We recommend leaving approximately 2–5 cm between each panel. Around 3 cm is a popular choice because it separates the canvases clearly without making the photograph feel disconnected.
We can check the resolution, cropping space and composition. If the photograph is too small or unsuitable for the selected size, we will contact you before printing to discuss the available options.
Yes. Each panel is professionally stretched and finished as an individual ready-to-hang canvas. The panels are installed separately so that you can control the exact spacing and position on your wall.
