Description
Finish Your 12x18 Canvas with a Floating Frame
This 12x18 canvas floater frame surrounds your existing stretched canvas with a visible shadow gap, giving the artwork a defined border while keeping its front surface on display. It is a framing option for a canvas print or painting you already own.
The nominal canvas size is 12 x 18 inches, approximately 30.5 cm x 45.7 cm. We prepare your frame using the actual canvas measurements supplied with your order. Measure your canvas, select its depth and choose a frame finish from the options above.

What Does the 12x18 Size Mean?
The size in the product name identifies the nominal canvas size. It is not the outside size of the finished floating frame. The outer frame is larger because it surrounds the canvas and includes the floating gap and frame profile.
A canvas labelled 30 cm x 45 cm is not exactly the same size as a 12 x 18 inch canvas. Stretched canvases can also differ slightly from their labelled dimensions, so the measurements of the canvas you own are what matter.
Enter the canvas dimensions only. Do not add an allowance for the floating gap or frame width. If your canvas is substantially different from the nominal size, contact us before ordering so we can check the appropriate frame and price.
Measure Your Canvas in Three Steps
1. Measure the Width
Measure across the full outside width of the stretched canvas, from edge to edge. Include the canvas wrapped over the stretcher bars.
2. Measure the Height
Measure the full outside height in the same way. Record width x height in centimetres and retain any decimal measurements.
3. Measure the Depth
Measure from the front face of the canvas to the back of its stretcher frame. This is the canvas thickness, not the width of the outer frame.
If the canvas has bowed sides, uneven corners or an unusual stretcher frame, send us its measurements and clear photos before ordering.
Choose the Right Canvas Depth and Frame Finish
Match the Depth to Your Actual Canvas
The 2 cm, 3 cm and 4 cm options refer to the depth of your existing canvas. Depth affects how the canvas sits within the floating frame. If your canvas falls between options, such as 3.5 cm, contact us to check suitability rather than rounding to the nearest option.
Choose a Finish That Suits the Artwork
When comparing the finishes offered above, darker tones can create a stronger outline, lighter tones can suit a softer presentation, and wood-look tones can complement warm colours in the artwork or room. Base your choice on the product images and available options.
A finish name describes the appearance. If a particular material is important to you, please confirm the material of your selected option before ordering.
Is This the Right Frame for Your Artwork?
Choose this product when you already have a canvas stretched over a supporting stretcher frame and want to add an outer frame. It can be used for a canvas photo print or canvas painting, provided its size, depth and construction are suitable.
A loose paper photograph, poster or rolled canvas cannot be fitted in the same way. Rolled canvas must first be stretched; paper artwork needs an appropriate picture-framing system.
Your existing canvas needs to be fitted and secured within the outer frame before display. If you need fitting advice or want to confirm the fixing accessories supplied with a selected option, contact us before ordering.
