A Considered Finish for Your Small 4x6 Canvas
A miniature painting or a small canvas print can hold plenty of detail. This 4x6 floating frame gives your existing stretched canvas a defined outline, with a visible space between the artwork and the surrounding frame creating the floating effect.
Choose the frame for the canvas you already have: measure its outside edges, match its thickness and select a finish that works with the artwork. This product supplies the outer frame; printing, artwork, a blank canvas and stretching are not included.

The nominal canvas size is 10.16 cm x 15.24 cm. Use the measurements of your own canvas when ordering.

From Your Ruler to the Order Field
Small canvases are easy to describe as “about 10 by 15 cm”, but the order needs the ruler reading. Keep the measured decimals rather than rounding the canvas to a convenient label.
Measure the outside width and height
Measure the stretched canvas from outer edge to outer edge, with the canvas in its intended portrait or landscape orientation. Enter width x height in Exact Size of Your Existing Canvas (in cm):.
Do not add space for the floating gap or the decorative frame border. The frame is prepared from the actual canvas dimensions you provide.
Match the existing canvas thickness
Measure from the back of the stretcher to the front of the canvas. Under Depth (Thickness) of Your Existing Canvas:, select the matching 2cm, 3cm or 4cm option.
If the thickness falls between the listed choices, contact us to confirm fit before choosing an option.
Using a ruler marked in millimetres?
Divide millimetres by 10 to get centimetres. For example, if your own canvas measures 102 mm wide and 152 mm high, the size to enter is 10.2 cm x 15.2 cm.

Choose a Finish That Works with a Small Artwork
Start with the canvas itself. A small flower study, a vivid abstract and a monochrome canvas may each call for a different surrounding colour.
A crisp outline
Black can echo dark brushwork or a strong line in the image. Consider it when you want a clear visual boundary around a colourful miniature.
A quieter transition
White can work with pale backgrounds. Compare Woodgrain and Light Woodgrain when a warmer colour palette suits the canvas and its surroundings.
An accent around the artwork
Gold, Antique Gold and Silver offer alternative accent colours. Look for a tone already present in the painting, or consider the finishes of nearby frames.
Plan the Space Around Your Miniature Canvas
Consider both the artwork and the frame when deciding where the completed piece will go.
Allow for the complete frame
The 4x6 label describes the canvas format. The finished frame extends beyond the canvas, so 10.16 cm x 15.24 cm is not the finished outside frame size.
If the artwork must fit within a fixed display space, ask us to confirm the finished outside dimensions for your measurements and selected option.
Plan the canvas fitting
Your existing stretched canvas needs to be fitted and secured inside the supplied outer frame. Plan this step before arranging the completed artwork for display.
Loose paper photographs need a frame designed for paper. Loose canvas needs stretching first; canvas boards and other supports require fit confirmation.
