Description
Give Your 9x12 Canvas a Finished Outline
A small painting or photo canvas can benefit from a clearly defined edge. This 9x12 floating frame surrounds your existing stretched canvas with a visible gap, creating a floating presentation while keeping the front of the artwork visible.
Start with the canvas you own: measure its width, height and thickness, then choose the finish. The frame is prepared using the actual outside dimensions you enter for this nominal 9x12 format.
A Compact Canvas Still Needs the Right Depth
Two canvases labelled 9x12 can have different thicknesses. Check the supporting canvas construction before selecting the frame colour.
Measure the Side of Your Canvas
Look at the side of the stretched canvas and measure its thickness from front to back. Use the canvas itself, with any separate outer frame excluded. Its width and height do not tell you which depth option to choose.
Match the Measured Thickness
The Depth (Thickness) of Your Existing Canvas: options are 2cm, 3cm and 4cm. Select the one that matches your measurement. A small canvas does not automatically need the shallowest option.
Enter Measurements in the Way You Will Display the Canvas
9 x 12 inches converts to 22.86 cm x 30.48 cm. Your order uses the canvas’s actual outside width x height in centimetres.
Portrait Canvas: Width Then Height
An exact 9 x 12 inch canvas in portrait orientation measures 22.86 cm wide x 30.48 cm high. If those are your actual measurements, enter “22.86 x 30.48 cm” in the size text box. Keep any decimals shown by your measurement.
Landscape Canvas: Width Then Height
The same exact inch format in landscape orientation measures 30.48 cm wide x 22.86 cm high. If those are your actual measurements, enter “30.48 x 22.86 cm”. The shorter side does not always come first in the order field.
If the canvas is uneven, measure in more than one place and ask us to confirm the fit. For a substantially different canvas size, browse floating frames by size to find the appropriate listing.
Choose a Finish That Suits a Small Artwork
Available choices are Black, White, Woodgrain, Light Woodgrain, Gold, Antique Gold and Silver. Once the dimensions and depth are confirmed, use colour to decide how prominent the surrounding frame should feel.
For Detailed or Softly Coloured Artwork
Try a finish that keeps the boundary quiet. White or Light Woodgrain may suit pale backgrounds and delicate colours. Compare the frame colour with the outer areas of the painting, where the artwork meets the surrounding gap.
For a Stronger Visual Boundary
Black can give a small canvas a more defined outline. Woodgrain, Gold, Antique Gold or Silver offer other ways to connect the artwork with the room. Choose the effect you prefer; there is no single correct finish for a 9x12 canvas.
